My Approach
My Approach
Redefine your relationship with alcohol and rediscover yourself as a professional and individual — one mountain at a time.

Learn how the five mountain approach can change your life with licensed drug and alcohol counselor and Executive Coach Kevin Kuhlow.
1. High performance requires more than going through the motions.
Working hard will only get you so far if you’re heart is not in it. The five mountains approach teaches you how to live more focused, connected, and complete as a person by giving you tools to manage stress and create mindfulness.
Goals for executive coaching and counseling using the five-mountain approach:
- Enhance your performance
- Improve your quality of life
- Build a healthier mind, body, and spirit
The more whole we are as people, the more connected we can be to our teams, companies, families, and ourselves. Often, successful people struggle to find happiness the most.
2. Climb the five mountains to enhance your performance and lead a more integrated life.
The core of the five mountains model is to lead you to a more integrated life, which will improve your performance across all aspects of your life. The goal is to focus on what you are capable of physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Each “mountain” represents a part of you that you will seek to enhance while working with me. The first mountain is the physical mountain, where together, we will seek to discover what you can do physically and adopt new routines to help your body perform at its peak.
The word “Kokoro” is a Japanese term that translates to merging heart and mind in action, which lies at the core of the five mountain approach.
It’s not about money, success, or fame, but about discovering your purpose — your “why” in life.
3. Chronic stress is not a badge of honor but rather a symptom of a divided person.
Maybe you’ve tried AA, support groups, therapy, or whatever else you could think of, and nothing has worked.
As a former executive with a drinking problem, I had the same issue until I discovered STRESS was at the root of my problem and alcohol was a faulty coping tool.
Stress bleeds into every aspect of life–your marriage, job, relationships, sleep, energy levels, and happiness. It divides your spirit and keeps you from living life to the fullest. Every elite performer–athlete, executive, military professional, entrepreneur, etc.–struggles with stress. Still, with such an emphasis placed on performing well, little thought is given to how to handle it, often leading to mental illnesses and self-medication.
Using the five-mountain approach, I will teach you the vital skills needed to cope with stress and pull the frayed strings of your life together into one strong thread.
Stress comes with many jobs and positions, but few learn how to handle it, leading to self-medication and other negative behaviors.
4. Why work with me?
I’ve been where you are. Having worked in the corporate world, I understand the stress of high-performance jobs and the self-medication that often comes with it. I also understand the lack of help available for those in this unique position.
I have researched other top performers and integrated their techniques with evidence-based treatments to help myself and others break free from addiction and other mental blocks to achieve a complete mind, body, and spirit.
Integration is not an easy path. Support is a key factor in discovering who you are. Let’s work together to overcome obstacles and reconnect you with your true self.
5. Begin your climb
As a drug and alcohol counselor and executive coach for CEOs, athletes, business owners, and other high performers, I can help you achieve a whole mind and body through the five mountain principles and other proven treatment methods.
